DSO (Designated School Official)

<p>Again, not an H-1B term per se, but for context: a <b>DSO</b> at a university helps F-1 students with their SEVIS records, OPT applications, etc.</p><p>When an F-1 student gets an H-1B offer, the DSO:</p><ul><li>Issues an OPT recommendation or STEM extension I-20</li><li>If selected in the cap, updates the record for cap-gap</li><li>Ensures the student maintains status until the H-1B kicks in</li></ul><p>DSOs are basically the liaisons between the student and DHS (SEVP).</p>
