I-797 Notice

<p><b>Form I-797</b> is not an application but a notice form USCIS uses to convey information.</p><p>Key types:</p><ul><li><b>I-797C</b> - Receipt notice (proof that USCIS received a petition and it's pending, with a case number)</li><li><b>I-797A</b> - Approval notice with a tear-off I-94 for change of status approvals</li></ul><p>For H-1B workers, the I-797A approval notice is the primary proof of H-1B status (it will list the validity dates and include an I-94 if the person changed status in the U.S.).</p>
