About Visa Stamp

Having an H-1B visa stamp in your passport is necessary to enter the U.S. in H-1B status (except for Canadians, who are visa-exempt). The stamp is obtained via a consular interview abroad.

It shows:

The visa category (H-1B)

Validity dates

Number of entries allowed

Importantly, the visa stamp's expiration doesn't determine how long you can stay – that's determined by the I-94 given on entry. But you cannot re-enter after your visa expires (unless renewed). If you change employers but your visa is still valid, you typically can use the same visa with the new approval notice to re-enter.
